How Harvey John Contributed to Plus Accounting’s Graduate Success

Plus Accounting is a leading B Corp-certified firm of Accountants, Business, and Tax Advisors based in Brighton & Hove.

Claire Jones first connected with Plus Accounting in 2010, and since 2021, Harvey John has teamed up with them to streamline their recruitment efforts. Initially, they sought to add a Trainee Accountant and ATT student to their team. Since then, we’ve successfully placed four additional junior finance hires, bolstering their pipeline of ACA graduates. We’ve also supported their senior hiring needs, ensuring the team grows with a balanced mix of fresh talent and experienced professionals.

At Harvey John, we understand that investing in early-career talent is key to long-term business growth. Since partnering with Plus Accounting, we’ve helped them build a strong pipeline of graduate accountants, all working towards their ICAEW qualification. By matching their recruitment needs with ambitious, eager candidates, we’ve played a key role in developing professionals who bring fresh ideas and contribute to the firm’s continued success across a diverse range of industries and clients.

Investing in your trainees really does pay off.

We love junior and trainee recruitment because it’s a chance to make a difference in someone’s career. Unfortunately, many smaller firms tend to treat trainee recruitment as an afterthought—they’ll wait until the summer and just see who’s available, without much consideration for how that person will be trained or developed. But Plus Accounting takes a different approach. They plan to bring in candidates who not only have strong academics but are also genuinely enthusiastic about joining the team. When we send a candidate to Plus Accounting, we know they’ll receive a structured training programme, solid mentoring, and be well supported. The fact that all five of the graduate trainees we’ve placed with them are still thriving speaks volumes—it’s proof that investing in your trainees really does pay off.

The trainees who have joined our team have significantly contributed to our success. They’ve quickly adapted to various industries, working closely with senior team members to deepen their expertise in audit, accounting, and taxation. All of our trainees actively support the audit team, taking on greater responsibilities and enhancing the efficiency of audit processes. Their enthusiasm to learn, combined with guidance from experienced colleagues, has enabled them to make impactful contributions early in their careers.” – Plus Accounting

Conclusion

Plus Accounting is incredibly organised and always plans well in advance to make sure new hires start at the right time for both the business and the candidate. They also offer a fantastic range of benefits and flexibility, and what’s great is that these are available to everyone from day one. Unlike many firms that give trainees reduced holiday allowance, pensions, or restrict remote working, Plus Accounting treats every hire equally from the start—which, let’s face it, just feels like the right way to do things!

“Claire and her team understand our business, our clients and our needs. This allows us to focus on integrating new hires into the team rather than spending excessive time searching for the right fit. Plus Accounting

With their proactive approach and commitment to nurturing talent, Plus Accounting is setting the bar high for how firms invest in their people, driving growth and success for everyone involved.
